Reader round-up: A Resene Christmas, colourful plant pots and Pacific story painting

14 Dec 2022

We always love to see what our readers are doing and how they use Resene products. We are so happy to see the Christmas spirit shining through with Resene paints being used to revamp decorations. Other colourful projects include painted plant pots made for gifts of kindness, bedroom colour blocking and a celebration of the Pacific culture through art and colour.

A very Resene Christmas

The Resene Christmas tree at the Pukekohe Hall for the Lions Christmas Grove is full of colour and cheer. Complete with hand painted baubles and dipped brushes, colourful lights and a Resene Lumbersider tree topper. Who said you have to buy new decorations? Why not revamp some old ones with paint drips in your favourite colours?

These baubles are paint dripped with Resene Bluetooth, Resene Valour, Resene Moana, Resene Tomorrow, Resene Picton Blue, Resene Atlas, Resene Mosque, Resene FOMO, Resene Envy, Resene Aura, Resene Bi Hoki, Resene Red Berry, Resene Pink Lace, Resene Hive and Resene Broom.

Brave blocking

Our reader Rachel Bright tried her hand at colour blocking a feature wall in her son’s room and the outcome is stunning. Rachel used Resene Half Gravel, Resene Madison and Resene Delta to create this look. The colours work so well with the other décor in the room and have a timeless quality to them that won’t go out of style.

If you’re looking to try colour blocking yourself, try low-tack masking tape to mark off areas and paint one block at a time. A good technique is to use a batten of timber marked at your chosen intervals as a guide, rather than ruling and marking at various places on the wall.

Colourful kindness

Claire Edmondson started Youth Project Takutai Charitable Trust to encourage youth to become involved in their community through volunteering. Local children painted these pots using Resene Aquapel & Terracotta Sealer and Resene paints, then filled them with herbs before giving them as kindness gifts to seniors in the community.

“We believe kindness is the first element of volunteering, so by showing kindness it is setting children on the path to think of others,” says Claire. “We made it part of our World Kindness Day celebrations.”

To make some colourful pots of your own try using Resene Havoc, Resene Dizzy Lizzy, Resene Mariner and Resene Turbo. This group used Resene Aquapel & Terracotta Sealer to seal the pots and keep their work looking fresh and bright for years to come!

Green is for sharing

Reader Alison Hucke from the Cambridge Community Garden shows us her wonderful garden stall called The Sharing Shed. This community come together to support each other by filling up the shed with fresh produce, swapping something, helping out by doing a small task in the garden or leaving a donation.

The team at Cambridge Community Gardens used Resene Quick Dry primer undercoat, then painted the shed in Resene Paradise and Resene Frost for the interior.

Pacific palette

Lio Fasi from the POPS (Painting Our Pacific Story) programme, showcases the colourful artworks from over 35 participants. Lio was very thankful to Resene for sponsoring 100 testpots to the group to create their beautiful representation of Pacific culture.

The participants loved it so much they all took paints and brushes home to continue their creative flow in their own time. Some of the most popular colours used were Resene Twice As Nice, Resene Dizzy Lizzy, Resene Adrenalin, Resene Rocket and Resene Dauntless.

A sticky Resene friend

Laurence Black was priming his roof and found a small friend waiting for him when collecting the paint cans to return. It turns out Resene eco-friendly products get the tick of approval from this curious stick insect.
