Explore some of Auckland’s best gardens at the Auckland Garden DesignFest

23 Nov 2022

Some of Auckland’s most gorgeous gardens are opening their gates this weekend (November 26-27) for the Auckland Garden DesignFest. The festival, organised by Rotary New Zealand and the Garden Design Society of New Zealand, features 18 designer gardens raising funds for Lifeline Aotearoa, KidsCan, Garden To Table, Oke and Rotary New Zealand. Gardens open in the festival are in a range of styles featuring everything from subtropicals, edibles, modern to formal and classical gardens in heritage homes. The garden designers will be at the gates of the gardens they created to answer questions from keen gardeners.

Garden 11 features Resene Surrender, Resene Chicago and the front door is painted in Resene Pohutukawa.

There are many gorgeous gardens to visit such as Garden 11 which was designed by Val Puxty in collaboration with the ceramic sculptor owner. A mix of natives and subtropicals, old trees and perennial borders, the site takes full advantage of the treed surrounding urban landscape and is a visual delight. The garden features formal and clipped, wild and woodland in unexpected combinations, big bold colours and lush cool greens sprinkled with the artist owner’s sculptural creations. Resene colours in this garden include Resene Surrender, Resene Chicago and the front door is Resene Pohutukawa.

Garden 1 features a timber pathway that reaches Lake Pupuke.  Keep timber pathways well protected with Resene Woodsman Nutmeg wood stain.

Garden 1 in Takapuna is a layered garden designed by Kirsten Sach Landscape Design & Adam Evans from Urbis Landscape. The garden descends steeply from street to lakeside with planting and path directly above and beside Lake Pupuke.

Picnic lunches can be preordered and collected at Garden 19 Dawson & Co and don’t miss cocktail hour between 3-5pm on Saturday 26 November for a complementary Malfy Gin and tonic courtesy of Pernod Ricard.

Tickets are available online or at garden gates. Visit www.gardendesignfest.co.nz
