Drumroll, please… the winner of the 2022 Resene Wallpaper Design Competition announced

Drumroll, please… the 2022 Resene Wallpaper Design Competition has closed, and the winners have been crowned. Congratulations to this year's winner, designer and artist Valerie Khoo.

Valerie's nautical design Shells celebrates the beauty of the beach, combining Resene Eighth Parchment, Resene Castle Rock, Resene Licorice and Resene Neutral Bay in repeat patterns of shells, starfish and seaweed. "I live near the beach, so I'm often inspired by the sea and nature", says Valerie. "To me, shells have perfectly formed proportions and represent a haven for whatever is inside; exactly what you want a home to be." Shells works in a range of spaces, from hallways to bedrooms. "It works in various colourways too, so it's suitable whether you want a more subtle muted hue or a vibrant, bold look."

Winning the Resene Wallpaper Design Competition was a thrill for passionate artist Valerie, who also paints large-scale flowers. "I love surface design and the creation of patterns for wallpaper, upholstery, fabric and so on. I immerse myself in creating patterns that can serve as a gentle backdrop for a room, but I also love designing bold patterns that make an unforgettable statement!"

Valerie’s coastal design features Resene Eighth Parchment, Resene Castle Rock, Resene Licorice and Resene Neutral Bay.

"It's an honour to win this award", says Valerie. "I am very passionate about designing wallpaper and love the process of creating patterns and images that will adorn someone's walls. To be recognised by Resene, one of the leaders in the industry is a great privilege. I had to read the email multiple times before it sank in!"

The winning designs will be turned into Resene WallPrint custom wallpaper in partnership with Aspiring Walls, with the designers sharing more than $7,000 in prizes. Congratulations to the runners-up: 'Floral Mural' by Kate Heeks-Purell (featuring Resene Black White and Resene Bokara Grey) and 'Echoing' by Isabella Green (featuring Resene Vindaloo, Resene Paua and Resene Malarkey)
