Reader roundup: A fantasy style mural, plant pot friends, and an exterior refresh

18 Jan 2023

We love seeing what our readers create with the help of Resene paints and products. We have spotted some great creations from the last few months, from a rust effect transformer to a bright white tunnel and colourful plant pot friends. Whatever project you’re planning, these designs are sure to get you inspired.

Artist Wicksey was asked by the owners of Mariner Suites in Oamaru if he could do something unique with their transformer box. He decided to take colours from the area - the blues and greens of the ocean, burnt oranges and metallics of the rusty metal from old machinery found around the harbour, and make it look like this box had been sitting here since the 1920s. What a transformation! The main colours used are Resene Lumbersider tinted to Resene Clockwork Orange and Resene Surfie Green, as well as Resene FX Metallic paint in Resene Catch 22, Resene Blast Yellow and Resene Bullion

Sarah Kolver shows off her artistic talents through her nature mural which she describes as ‘a picture-book fantasy forest with a touch of New Zealand’. The mural is painted with an abundance of Resene colours such as Resene Gin Fizz, Resene Pale Rose, Resene Half Milk Punch, Resene Pattens Blue, Resene Shakespeare, Resene Tory Blue, Resene Malibu, Resene Paper Doll, Resene Optimist, Resene Surfs Up and Resene Hyperactive.

The weather was finally good enough for Cross Creek Railway Society to paint one of their projects - painting the inside of a tunnel in time for a Halloween night run. Thanks to donated recycled paint from the Resene PaintWise recycling service, the tunnel looked dazzling in white going through at night!

Jenny and Rex have had a refresh on the exterior of their house, and it looks amazing! They are very happy with their new crib in Westwood, which is on the way to Brighton on the coast south of Dunedin. A perfect choice of blues is used to represent the great oceans nearby.

The main walls are painted in Resene San Juan, the front door in Resene Grey Friars  and the soffits, fascia and door frames are in Resene Double Alabaster.

With the help of some Resene testpots, the team from the Mt Roskill Resene ColorShop were inspired to use colours of their choice to create fun friends using plant pots, including the Winnie the Pooh characters, Minnie and Mickey. They also used pipe cleaners and beads for some fun dangly arms and legs. The team used colours such as Resene Gorse for Pooh, Resene Ballerina for Piglet and Resene Tango for Tigger.
