What is your role at Resene and what does that involve?

I have been with Resene for over 11 years, first starting in a Resene ColorShop as a Retail Sales Assistant allowing me to gain a good technical knowledge before moving into a Colour Specialist and Assistant Manager position. Through here I was able to further develop my passion for design.

Having a degree in both Landscape and Interior Design led me to my current position, a Colour Consultant for the Newmarket ColorShop. My role works with a variety of departments within the Resene team and our customers, working alongside the trade team offering colour support for our trade painters, alongside the Resene ColorShops giving retail customers instore or onsite colour advice as well as offering colour and technical support to specifiers and designers.

What is one of your favourite projects using Resene products?

As a residential consultant I always love it when people want to introduce colour into their home. One of my favourite projects was working with a couple who had a stained exterior with green guttering. They were wanting a modern lift, while still retaining personality.

We went for Resene Jaguar for the tongue and grove panels, using the Resene CoolColour system as it is a dramatic inky blue with a hint of purple when the light hits it, offering both a modern and dramatic balance. We contrasted this with the neutral grey of Resene Surrender for the guttering and garage door replacing the outdated green while further adding depth with Resene Jaguar. Finally with pink being a favourite colour of theirs we put Resene Lipstick onto the front door for that bold colour statement.

Given the age of the timber there was natural texture there, so we went with Resene Lumbersider Low Sheen CoolColour. The low sheen finish helps to hide, not highlight, the imperfections in the timber and the Resene CoolColour system helps reduce the risk of heat damage to the substrate and make the darker colour last longer.

I always like a high gloss front door as it helps to further enhance the colour. Resene Enamacryl is a gloss waterborne enamel perfect for the front door.

The before and after of Amy’s clients’ home, painted with Resene Lipstick on the front door, and Resene Jaguar for the timber and Resene Surrender for the guttering.

What is your biggest design or product tip?

When renovating or building, for the interior choose your carpet, flooring, tiles and kitchen detailing first. Even though the paint goes on the walls before these other selections, they will help narrow down your colour choices. There are thousands of paint colours but only a limited range of options for flooring and tiles.

What are your favourite Resene colours?

Anyone who knows me knows I love the autumn colour palette and Resene has such a variety of options to choose from. I’m forever changing my mind and finding new colours. The new Resene The Range fashion colours collection has some of my current favourites Resene Wabi Sabi, Resene Dawn Glow, Resene Summer Rose and Resene Tequila Sunrise.
