Find peace in Pegasus with this first-prize Heart Foundation Lottery home

31 Jan 2024

With a gorgeous lake at its centre, the growing town of Pegasus is popular with families of all shapes and sizes. Situated in north Canterbury, it is just 25km from Christchurch city and within a two-hour drive of holiday hotspots Akaroa and Hanmer Springs.

Built and staged by Jennian Homes Canterbury, this home comes fully furnished, decorated with classic Resene paint colours and styled to reflect the peaceful backdrop of the surrounding wetlands.

“With many people enjoying hybrid working or working from home, we’ve chosen to build some of our first-prize properties in locations like Pegasus that offer residents the best of both worlds,” says Liz Halpin, Lottery Operations Manager at the Heart Foundation. “Pegasus is a great town with all the essential amenities, with the added bonus of being close to a major city.”

This coastal community has lots to keep its residents occupied. Boasting its own golf and sports club, one could perfect their technique on one of New Zealand’s most renowned courses. Pegasus Beach and Pegasus Bay Walkway are only a short venture from the front door of this property, so the new owners can stretch their legs and take a dip to their hearts’ content.

Resene Nocturnal was used near the entrance to tie in with the exterior, with a contrasting Resene Merino used throughout the home on walls and ceiling.

Sue Prendergast from Jennian Homes Canterbury shares with us what inspired her and their team when designing such a charming home.

What was your design brief?

With a wonderful setting in Pegasus, it was important for us to create a warm and inviting home that made the most of the view of the adjacent wetland areas. Liz at the Heart Foundation was great giving a wide scope of which to play with, and we wanted to have a ‘pop’ of colour throughout the home. We did this by choosing colours that brought the outside indoors!

The timeless white of Resene Merino was used throughout the home creating an inviting space for the new homeowners.

The living room features the beautiful shade of Resene Double Lemon Grass, with surrounding walls in Resene Merino.

What colours did you choose?

To complement the external brick, we chose exterior finishes in COLORSTEEL® FlaxPod and Resene Nocturnal for the weatherboards. The weatherboard feature colour was brought inside the home in entry through using the same colour – Resene Nocturnal. It looks great! Restful nature inspired hues were chosen with Resene Half Merino throughout the home and select feature walls of Resene Triple Duck Egg Blue in the main bedroom and Resene Double Lemon Grass in the lounge and separate toilet.

A gorgeous blend of blue, grey and green, Resene Triple Duck Egg Blue, was used as a feature wall in the master bedroom, with Resene Merino on surrounding walls and the ceiling.

What was the biggest challenge for this project?

It was honestly quite a seamless build, with minor delays in some product being the only hiccups!

What was your favourite aspect of the design?

I love how restful the home feels!  It really does feel like a wee escape from busy life.  The use of colour in the bedrooms and lounges truly complements the exterior setting.  The entry panelling painted in Resene Nocturnal is a stunning feature - there is a lot to like about this home!

Resene Nocturnal was used on the exterior weatherboards, the perfect contrasting shade to the white brickwork.

In partnership with its long-time key supporter, Jennian Homes, the Heart Foundation Lottery offers the life-changing first prize of a fully furnished home seven times each year.

Lottery homes are built in lifestyle destinations throughout New Zealand and finished in Resene paints and stains.
