Five inspiring Resene wood stain projects

This house is a redesign of a family home that was damaged during the Canterbury earthquakes. JTB Architects used Resene Woodsman Natural to stain the vertical shiplap cladding.

Pete Bossley of Bossley Architects stained the cedar cladding of this rural Auckland home in Resene Woodsman Whero, a colour reminiscent of traditional rural barns. The dramatic soffits are painted in Resene Eighth Pearl Lusta.

Skylark Cabin is exposed to the elements in its quiet setting in the tussock grasslands at the foothills of the Ben Ohau range near Twizel. The rural retreat designed by Barry Connor Architectural Design has a timber exterior with a rough-sawn larch rainscreen stained with Resene Waterborne Woodsman tinted to Resene Pitch Black with orange accents painted in Resene Lumbersider Low Sheen tinted to Resene Vesuvius. The home is exposed to the elements and the Resene Waterborne Woodsman CoolColour formula was chosen to make sure the stain reflects heat and to help protect the timber.

The plywood walls and ceilings of the Studio 19 Bach in Onemana, Coromandel are sealed in Resene Aquaclear Satin. Design and build by Strachan Group Architects (SGA), built in partnership with Unitec students and John ‘Cocksy’ Cocks.

Architectural designer Fraser Gillies channelled the style of luxury Pacific Island resorts with his wooden bathroom design. To use wood in the wet areas around the shower, timber slats were stained on all four sides in Resene Colorwood Mahogany and finished in three coats of protective Resene Aquaclear. The slats were placed over the top of waterproof sheeting painted in Resene All Black. The white walls painted in Resene Black White and vanity doors in Resene Black Sheep continue the spa-inspired style.
